The Power of Sharing Information

Focus questions:

Relation to the Theme: The computer age has opened up a wealth of information previously out of reach to most students of aquatic environments. The Focus Questions for this Investigation concentrate on how to approach using online resources and initiating online collaborations-and how students can use these resources and collaborations to expand the breadth and depth of information on which they base judgments and conclusions about their aquatic field-study site. Broadening the scope of their research to include a diverse range of other people's findings and opinions about their aquatic field-study site and about others' sites will enhance their understanding of how aquatic environments adapt to changing conditions. It will also help them answer the research questions posed at the start of this curriculum, which have to do with what forces affect the environment, how the environment responds to these forces, and what tools researchers use to study these issues.
