By winter she's a kindergarten teacher; year-round, a dynamo of ideas for bringing marine science and kids together. Every summer she hosts "K through PhD" programs for teachers, students, and parents at Dauphin Island Sea Lab. She has held teachers' conferences "on location" in salt marshes, beaches, and maritime forests; she organizes hands-on family programs. Next, she plans a mock submersible, to teach about the many skills involved in studying the oceans.
"My project Kids, Crabs, and Cockleshells aims to provide the means, materials, and "feet first" experience for teachers to teach science skills using marine education as the motivating factor."
