Karen Ann Roach

Syracuse, New York

As a volunteer summer intern for the Smithsonian Institution's Environmental Awareness Program in Washington, D.C., in 1994, she worked tirelessly to help meet Ocean Planet production deadlines, located objects, and researched captions for the photos you've seen in this exhibit. A student at the State University of New York's College of Environmental Science and Forestry, she focuses on paper science, and may one day develop environmentally friendly and cost-effective paper-making processes.

"You get a lot of satisfaction volunteering for a cause you believe in."
