ALOHA
Well for those that don't get to see a show, and were curious, here you are:
PELE - Goddess of Hawaii's Volcanoes
In folklore Pele appears as a tall, beautiful young woman, or an old woman, wrinkled and bent with age. When enraged she may appear as a woman all aflame or as pure flame . Her sacred name as a sprit is Ka-ula-o-ke-ahi, the redness of the fire.
Tradition states that Pele came by sailing-canoe from the ancient homeland in the islands of the Tahiti group. Her personality is volcanic - unpredictable, impulsive, given to sudden rages and violence. Hers is both the power to destroy and the power it create new land. Born in the awe experienced by an ancient people, her majestic presence is felt by those who visit her domain daily.
In the old culture priest and priestesses who served Pele brought gifts of baked pork, vegetables, fruit, and flowers. No virgin maidens nor any other human sacrifices were tossed into the crater, despite the stories some romantics love to tell.
(The above were excerpts taken from the book "PELE " written by Herb Kawainui Kane.)

The first set of Argonauts left Saturday. The all had a great time and became good friends. I think they will all remember the Jason project. The new Argonauts started today. They are all excited but still a little shy about the Jason experience. That won't last long.
The lava flow from the volcano has slowed a bit, but it still managed to eat up one more camera cable today.
Yesterday, Sunday, we ventured into Hilo to see something other than lava. We found some of the local beaches after eating Pizza first. The Pizza was a nice change from the pasta and rice stuff we've been eating for the last few weeks. At one of the beaches there were surfers. Most were using the body boards, but one was actually on a full size board. Although, I should mention that he was carrying it back to shore in two pieces. I guess he found one of those lava rocks.
Some of the other Jason crew members decided to drive to the black sand beaches in Kona. They left for the two hour ride, and after nine hours they returned after spending only 15 minutes at the beach. I guess they found out it does matter which way you drive around the Island.
Well, the shows all went well today. The interactively is a big hit, I think the kids are well ahead of some of us on computers. The remote driving is only a small part of the computers being used here at Jasonville II. The question from the Pins are never ending. I only wish that we could air them all. I see hundreds of questions come across the data of which only a few make it to the show..
The latest on Jasonville III is that it looks like Pele is going to let us stay here at Jasonville II as long as we continue to feed her cables.....
