Hi every body- My name is Regina Cate Richards, from College Park, MD, and I am a student argonaut. Most people call me Catie though. I am going to try to share with you a few of my experiences that I have had these past 3 days on the Jason Project. Firstly I have never been of the eastern seaboard, so to fly 16 hours halfway around the world was quite an experience!! I can not get over the other students argo's!! They are all sooooooooooo chevez (that is our own argo word for cool that has evolved over the last three days we have been together). We have grown so close together, its like we have known each other for years!
Yesterday I got the chance to fly in the chopper. I was the first argo. to go up, and let me say that it was like nothing I have ever done before! It was so incredible to actually fly right over the crater of an active volcano! The most chevez thing happened while we were up yesterday -- all of the sudden a plume of smoke shot up into the sky over the flow. The pilot decided to head over to it and check it out. When we got there we saw and area of the lava (about 10 feet by 10 feet) had drop down four feet. Also an area (about 3 by 3) had fallen all the way though and exposed a river of lava underneath. It was really cool that you could see the rushing lava. It was so power and at the same time it was really beautiful. It was
