One of Dr. Durbin's many jobs is to figure out just what type of equipment is needed to get the JASON broadcast accomplished. He tabulates the amount of power needed, height of signal antennas, class of satellite to cover the foot print or receiving areas, and works with satellite binders to gain access to communication networks. During the actual broadcasts he makes sure that all the communications are operational, that data is moving back and forth over internet, microwaves, satellites, and cable TV.
As a guest Research Host, Dr. Durbin's special project of students to be part of is to examine sun outages and time delays and study how they influence the quality of a broadcast.
