Martha Alexander
Martha Alexander of Silver Spring, Md., is a biology teacher for grades ninth
through twelfth at High Point High School in Beltsville, Md. She also
teaches advanced placement biology to eleventh and twelfth graders and has
been chair of the science department for 14 years. Alexander served as the
mentor teacher for JASON VI at the Goddard Space Flight Center PIN site.
Besides teaching, Alexander is actively involved in the University of
Maryland Trail Club and has been on numerous backpacking, hiking, canoeing,
kayaking, snorkeling and biking trips. She is a volleyball and gym coach and
likes to rollerblade through her neighborhood. For several years, Alexander
and her husband owned and operated their own raft and kayak company, where
they taught canoeing and kayaking and organized raft trips on local rivers.
