Betsy Berg
Betsy Berg of Las Vegas, Nev., teaches biology and marine science to ninth
through twelfth graders at Cimarron-Memorial High School. Berg was nominated
for a Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching
in October 1994 and for the Tandy Award for Outstanding Science Educator in
September 1994. Recently, she was selected by the National Science Teachers
Association as an Access Excellence Fellow, participating in a summit for
biology teachers this summer. Berg was instrumental in introducing the JASON
curriculum to the other 17 science faculty members at her school. She served
as a mentor to these members and organized field trips to the local PIN site
for JASON V and VI. Berg became interested in science after taking field
trips to vacant lots and collecting bugs in bottles when she was a child.
