Dr. Jerry Wellington
Host Researcher: Biologist
Dr. Jerry Wellington is an associate professor of biology at the University
of Houston. He will be exploring the effect humans have on natural coral
growth in the Florida Keys as part of this year's JASON Project. He is a
veteran JASON Project scientist who first took part in the 1991 program in
the Galapagos Islands and then again in 1994's exhibition in Belize. He has
studied corals for 22 years. Wellington finds his job enjoyable because of
the excitement of discovering something that no one knew before and spending
time in different cultures.
Jerry received his undergraduate degree in biology from San Jose State University, San Jose in
California and his Ph.D. in biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
