Sylvia Pakstis
Sylvia Pakstis of Orlando, Fla., is a seventh grade science and English
teacher at Conway Middle School in Orlando. Pakstis piloted the Florida
LakeWatch Program at the middle school level. She directed students on the
proper procedures for monitoring the eutrophication of a nearby lake that
students "adopted" for a two year study. Pakstis was voted Conway Middle
School's "Teacher of the Year" in 1994 and received Orange County Public
School's "Better Than Ever" Award in 1992. She has been a Young Scientists'
Club sponsor for the past three years and a member of Orlando Science
Center's Educational Task Force.
