The skipper of the 47ft. Tanekaha, Rod Simpson (right), and his son
Mike (left) make an excellent crew. They are very knowledgeable about
working at sea and their fishing boat is well equipped for lifting and
retrieving the 300 lb. Odyssey to and from the deck into the sea.
The MIT Odyssey team of three have worked hand in hand with the crew, whose
mechanical and technical skills have insured a smooth and safe
operation. During the past two weeks of daily maneuvers on the boat in
mostly rough seas, they have worked out a very compatible, productive
routine.
This was very apparent when a vicious, infamous southerly front
suddenly roared down upon us, requiring all hands on deck to
secure all equipment in split second efficiency. Luckily, the Odyssey
had just been retrieved, for we could have severely damaged both
vehicle and boat trying to maneuver her aboard during that blow.
