The alarm seared thru my unrested brain...about 4:20AM. I really had to
make an effort to get out of bed. 3 hours isn't quite enough. As I
showered I realized that the last months of planning and preparation,
and the final frantic week, were over. I was about to begin this new
venture for which I had worked so vigorously. But was this really new,
or rather a continuation of a quest that must have begun unrealized
over 30 years ago?...

The Christmas holidays consumed my time and concentration. It wasn't
until January 1st that I could start focusing on organizing the house,
the books, shopping, and seeing that my volunteer activities would be
covered while I was gone. In those two weeks, I also learned a new
e-mail system from the Smithsonian and became familiar with the laptop
computer and the new Word for Windows program which is a change from my
beloved WordPerfect. My defined tasks for this expedition are
records-keeper, journals keeper and unofficial top side
photographer/videographer. I enjoy each of these activities on a daily
personal level, but never have I been conscripted for this purpose. I
feel I'm going to enjoy it all!!
