The Japanese pilot is aboard to guide the ship out of the harbor. All around the world it is required that local pilots come aboard all ships to show them the way in and out of harbors. Pilots spend many days at sea aboard all kinds of ships and never leave their own harbors!
The pilot skillfully and confidently directs the helmsman. Once we are clear of all hazards, the he gives command back to our captain and then goes down to meet his boat which has been speeding alongside us. With a smile and a wave for luck, he jumps aboard the pilot boat and returns home.
