We will measure the temperature and salinity of the ocean from the surface to the bottom here. The ship comes to a stop and we lower a Conductivity-Temperature-Depth (CTD) probe over the side.

It takes over an hour for the CTD to reach the bottom over 2000 meters below us. The ship's bow thruster keeps us in position so the cable does not get fouled on the ship. We are all busy recording the data to tapes and writing our observations down in the survey log. It's good to be taking data again!
