The Bent has an exercise room and many games, books and video tapes aboard for free time when we are not on watch. We usually gather in the wardroom after meals to watch taped movies, sports and TV shows.

Some people like to listen to shortwave radio or music or play cards. Occasionally someone will bring out a guitar or other instrument. For most of our trip, we will be too far from land to get regular radio or television programs. At sea, the radio officer prints out a daily headline newsletter, but other than that, there will be no mail or magazines or newspapers until we reach our next port, and phone calls must be made via satellite!

Everyone always brings lots of extra books, tabloid newspapers, magazines and audio tapes and CDs to enjoy and share. By the end of the trip we will have read and heard all of them at least once!
